The article reported that from 2000 to 2009, four cataract surgery, upper gastrointestinal procedures, colonoscopy and arthroscopy have been moving to the outpatient setting. ASC growth wasn’t significantly associated with Medicare volume for the procedures except for colonoscopy, according to the report, and continued growth of ASCs could reduce Medicare spending since reimbursement is lower than other settings.
