Here’s what you should know.

1. Anyone with a valid EBT or Medicaid card will be eligible to purchase a membership for $5.99 per month.

2. Regular priced prime memberships cost $12.99 monthly or $99 for the year.

3. Amazon hopes the memberships will provide the Medicaid population inexpensive access to the products it sells.

4. Market analysts believe the move is positioning Amazon closer to making an entry into the healthcare market through a physical retail clinic, similar to Walmart’s vision and urgent care centers.

5. The Advis Group CEO Lyndean Brick said, “Amazon is looking at this as a customer is a customer, regardless of what your economic profile [is]. Medicaid recipients are like every one of us. We all have smartphones. We all want things that are easy.”
