Amazon delivers Prime discount for 68M Medicaid beneficiaries — 5 insights

The nearly 68 million people enrolled in Medicaid can save $7 on the monthly rate for Prime subscriptions, Time reports.

Here are five insights.

1. Amazon normally charges $12.99 per month, or $99 per year, for Prime memberships. Medicaid beneficiaries can purchase monthly subscriptions for $5.99.

2. Customers who qualify can renew their subscriptions at the discounted rate for up to four years.

3. The discount for Medicaid recipients is viewed as a strategy for enticing low-income shoppers.

4. Last year, Amazon lowered the Prime subscription rate to $5.99 per month for customers with an Electronic Benefits Transfer card, which is given to people who receive certain types of government assistance.

5. Amazon Prime members get perks such as free two-day shipping, free unlimited streaming of video and music and special discounts.
