AMA Updates CPT 2011 Corrections Document

The American Medical Association has updated its CPT 2011 corrections document, adding several grammatical corrections and changes to parenthetical notes and code descriptions, according to an AAPC release.

The latest update includes the following changes:

• Revising the parenthetical note following evaluation and management (E/M) add-on code 99356 Prolonged physician service in the inpatient setting, requiring unit/floor time beyond the usual service, first hour (List separately in addition to code for inpatient Evaluation and Management service) to split out the range,” as the subsequent observation codes (99224-99226) should not be included in the range of codes.”

• Deleting the parenthetical note following 47490 Cholecystostomy, percutaneous, complete procedure, including imaging guidance, catheter placement, cholecystogram when performed, and radiological supervision and interpretation, referencing radiological supervision and interpretation.

Other changes or corrections can be found in the Radiology, Pathology and Laboratory and Medicine sections; Appendices B, D and M; and the Category III section as well as the Index.
