AMA launches online tools to ease MACRA transition — 5 insights

The American Medical Association launched various online tools to aid physicians' transition to the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015.

Here are five insights:

1. One new tool, the AMA Payment Model Evaluator, provides physicians with initial assessments, so they can see MACRA's potential impact on their practices. Physicians created the tool, which will also offer educational resources tailored to their specific situations.

2. The AMA plans to update the Payment Model Evaluator to reflect regulatory changes and up-to-date practices, as the new payment model goes into effect in 2017.

3. The AMA STEPS Forward tool will now offer MACRA-specific resources. The modules present challenges and real-world solutions, implementation strategies and case studies.

4. The AMA also unveiled a new podcast series, called Inside Medicare's New Payment System, which will feature CMS Acting Administrator Andy Slavitt as well as AMA staff experts. The series will include five episodes.

5. The association will continue updating its MACRA link on its website as well.

"The AMA is helping physicians get started with practical advice presented plainly and clearly, and physicians should begin by logging in today to best understand the changes that are occurring," said Andrew Gurman, MD, president, AMA.
