1. The AMA honored the following people:
- Sen. John Barrasso, MD, (R-Wyo.);
- Janine Austin Clayton, MD, the National Institutes of Health’s Associate Director for Research on Women’s Health;
- Patrick Conway, MD, Acting CMS Administrator;
- Don Crowson; Chief of the Arlington (Texas) Fire Department;
- Dave Jones, California Insurance Commissioner;
- Rep. John Nygren (R-Wis.);
- Elizabeth Roberts, Former Rhode Island Health and Human Services Secretary;
- Rep. Phil Roe, MD, (R-Tenn.);
- Andrew Slavitt, former CMS Acting Administrator;
- Sen. Kirk Watson (D-Texas).
2. For more than 25-years, the AMA has awarded the award on government officials who have gone “beyond the call of duty to improve public health,” AMA Board of Trustees Chair Patrice A. Harris, MD, said.
3. The award winners have all played key parts in implementing health policies that benefited Americans.
