AHA petitions CMS to delay bundled payment model deadline — 4 insights

The American Hospital Association petitioned CMS to delay the application deadline for its new bundled payment model by a month to convey additional information to its members, AJMC reports.

Here's what you should know:

1. The AHA petitioned CMS Administrator Seema Verma in a letter. Although the organization agrees with the principles of the bundled payment model, AHA wants CMS to provide more information on the program. AHA also made several recommendations on how CMS should structure the program.

2. Specifically, AHA is requesting information on how CMS will determine target prices, participation requirements and risk, regulatory relief, exclusions from bundled payments, attribution methodology, quality measure use in payment determination and data sharing.

3. AHA would like CMS to delay the application deadline from March 12 to April 16.

4. AHA Executive Vice President Tom Nickels said, "Our members support the healthcare system moving toward the provision of more accountable, coordinated care and are redesigning delivery systems to increase value and better serve patients."
