Aetna, Humana implore Florida regulators to approve merger — 5 points

On Monday, Aetna and Humana urged Florida regulators to approve their merger, according to Tampa Bay Times.

Here are five points:

1. The payers claim the merger will create a projected $1.25 billion in cost savings over time.

2. The cost savings would create better benefits and new programs for nearly 3 million Floridians.

3. A merger between UnitedHealth Group and Sierra Health Services increased insurance premiums by nearly 14 percent, as reported in a study two years ago.

4. Deputy Insurance Commissioner Rich Robleto said regulators are concerned the merger will prioritize the new investors over the people who pay insurance premiums in the state.

5. The merger is still considered "pending and under review."
