ACA enrollment surges to 6.4M — 4 key notes

Despite news swirling about an ACA repeal, nearly 6.4 million Americans purchased coverage under the ACA, according to The New York Times.

Here are four key notes:

1. This year, 400,000 more Americans bought coverage, compared to 2015.

2. The five states with the most Americans purchasing coverage on HealthCare.gov on Dec. 19, 2016 include:

●    Florida — 1.3 million
●    Texas — 776,000
●    North Carolina — 369,000
●    Georgia — 352,000
●    Pennsylvania — 291,000

3. The 6.4 million total does not include data from states that use their own digital marketplaces, such as New York and California.

4. HHS Secretary Sylvia Mathews Burwell said the high enrollment figure is significant in light of the escalating premiums and the ACA's uncertainty.
