Here are five insights:
1. Almost 12.7 million Americans signed up for ACA coverage prior to the Jan. 31 deadline.
2. CMS reports of those who initially enrolled, 87 percent still have ACA coverage.
3. The agency expects nearly 10 million Americans will maintain ACA coverage through the end of 2016.
4. ACA opponents argue the ACA is underperforming as the Congressional Budget Office had initially estimated 2016 enrollment could reach 21 million Americans. However, CMS countered fewer employers than expected dropped ACA coverage.
5. Additionally, Kevin Counihan, CEO of the ACA marketplaces, said the nearly 1 million increase in enrollees from last year is testament to the healthcare law’s success.
