7 things to know about the value based payment modifier

Here are seven things to know about the value based payment modifier, according to a MediGain blog post.

•    Physician groups with 100 or more eligible providers will see payment adjustments based on Physician Quality Reporting System measures from 2013.
•    In 2016, physician groups with 10 or more eligible providers will see the VBPM applied to payments based on 2014 PQRS performance.
•    In 2017, the VBPM will apply to all physicians who participate in fee-for-service Medicare. This will be based on 2015 PQRS performance.
•    In 2017, physician groups with less than 10 eligible professionals will not experience payment penalties.
•    In 2017, physician groups with 10 or more eligible professionals could experience penalties of -2 percent to -4 percent.
•    Incentive payments for physician groups with fewer than 10 eligible professionals could be as high as 2 percent.
•    Incentive payments for physician groups with 10 or more eligible professionals could be as high as 4 percent.
