Here are five things to know about him:
1. Mr. Markovich has been president and CEO of Blue Shield of California since 2013.
2. One of his biggest accomplishments at Blue Shield was the acquisition of Care1st Health Plan in 2015. The acquisition was Blue Shield’s first foray into the Medi-Cal/Medicaid market.
3. Mr. Markovich is a 20-year veteran of Blue Shield. He previously served as the organization’s COO. He was responsible for healthcare services, network management, marketing, product development and customer operations, among others, in the past.
4. Mr. Markovich had two tenures at Blue Shield. Between tenures, he co-founded a consumer-driven health plan and joined another consumer-driven health plan before returning to Blue Shield.
5. A native of North Dakota, Mr. Makovich earned a bachelor’s degree from Colorado Springs-based Colorado College. He later earned a master’s degree in philosophy from Oxford, England-based Oxford University.
