About 30 percent of healthcare providers are utilizing a manual process for claims denial management, based on an HIMSS Analytics survey, according to RevCycle Intelligence.
Here are six points.
1. Fewer than half of providers surveyed said they use a vendor's automated claims denial management solution.
2. The survey found 18 percent of providers use an in-house program for claims denial management.
3. Most providers use a clearinghouse vendor for a claims denial program while 17 percent of providers use an EHR vendor.
4. Most of the providers who use a vendor solution reported satisfaction with the program.
5. The survey predicted vendor solutions will gain traction among more providers in 2017.
6. HIMSS Analytics believes the shift to value-based care will spur the growth of automated claims denial management solutions, as providers must measure quality and cost data to maximize claims revenue.
