3 notes on how Cigna's partnership with this NC health system impacts surgery centers

Asheville, N.C.-based Mission Health penned a deal with Cigna that applies to Cigna customers obtaining healthcare at the health system's ASCs, hospitals and employed physicians, according to Mountain Express.

Here are three highlights:

1. As per the agreement, Cigna customers who obtain healthcare benefits from their employers now have in-network access to the aforementioned Mission Health entities.

2. The deal goes into effect Sept. 1.

3. Mission Health operates surgery centers and six hospitals in North Carolina.

"We believe a much more competitive insurance market in western North Carolina will greatly benefit large and small group employers and consumers alike. Cigna has been a terrific partner for Mission and the community," said Paul McDowell, deputy chief financial officer of Mission Health.
