Kaiser Permanente Health Plans was the largest payer by total incurred claims in 2021, according to data firm Definitive Healthcare

Definitive Healthcare tracks metrics on over 1,200 payer and payer subsidiary organizations. 

Here are the largest healthcare insurance companies by total incurred claims, followed by total incurred claims in 2021. 

Kaiser Permanente Health Plans: $48.2 million

UnitedHealthcare: $31.2 million

Elevance Health $31 million

Health Care Service Corp. Group: $27.1 million

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida: $13.9 million

Centene Corp.: $13.4 million

Blue Shield of California: $12. 2 million

Aetna: $11.9 million

Cigna: $11. 6 million

CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield: $7.2 million
