17M enrolled in Medicaid and CHIP since ACA enactment: 3 key notes

CMS released enrollment data showing approximately 17 million people benefit from Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program since the ACA’s implementation in 2010, Healthcare Finance News reports.

Here’s what you need to know.

1. As of October 2016, nearly 68 million people enrolled into Medicaid and five million into CHIP.

2. From September to October 2016, 45,279 people enrolled into one of the two programs.

3. The utilization rate between the programs skews towards children as 51 percent of those enrolled were children. Only 49 percent of the enrollees were adults.
