Here’s what you should know:
1. The center is the first in Oregon to earn the certification.
2. The Joint Commission accredited Willamette Surgery Center in 1999 and the center has maintained its accreditation ever since. This new certification recognizes the center’s focus on all aspects of outpatient hip and knee replacement.
3. Since starting their joint replacement program in 2014, the surgeons of Salem-based Hope Orthopedics have performed 375 joint replacements.
4. Joint Commissioner surveyors put the center through a “rigorous” review to see if it met the standards for the advanced certification.
John Coen, MD, a Hope Orthopedics surgeon and the head of the total joint replacement program, said, “It is great to see validation of something the surgeons at Hope Orthopedics already knew – Willamette Surgery Center does a fantastic job caring for our patients. It is a pleasure for Hope Orthopedics to bring outpatient joint replacement to the people of the Willamette Valley, and Willamette Surgery Center does it right.”
