Training Requirements for Housekeeping Staff in Surgery Centers: Q&A With Dotty Bollinger of Laser Spine Institute

Dotty Bollinger, RN, JD, LHCRM, CASC, is chief medical operations officer for Laser Spine Institute.

Q: What are the training requirements for housekeeping staff in an ambulatory surgery center?

Dotty Bollinger: Check with your state regulations to ensure training requirements for housekeeping staff. Be prepared to show evidence that the staff received BBP [bloodborne pathogen] and hazard communications training, and that all products used are EPA registered.

We require our national providers to provide “certifications” for all staff, and that includes a comprehensive training. That’s our internal requirement.
