There are 11 new and revised elements taking effect this summer, stemming from a field and literature-based review of standards.
The new requirements include:
1. Supporting the continuity of care with standardized handoffs and transfer protocols.
2. Following American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons’ current clinical practice guidelines.
3. Monitoring blood management and infection rates through a performance improvement process.
4. Providing orientation for staff caring for knee and hip replacement procedures.
5. Standardizing care delivery during the pre and postoperative phases, as well as during surgery.
