1. The Joint Commission said 79 percent of ambulatory healthcare organizations and 81 percent of office-based surgery centers had at least one finding in the infection prevention and control chapters during surveys in 2017.

2. The scoring behind process steps that pose the highest risk to patients, including hand hygiene, environmental cleaning and disinfection and injection and medication safety, was refined.

3. Other areas of enhanced focus for The Joint Commission include sterile medication compounding, hemodialysis and suicide prevention.
