1. The REAL module has three pillars — race, ethnicity and language — that aim to help providers refine care plans.
2. The module:
- Follows management and budgetary guidelines
- Helps hospitals and primary care providers meet federal health information technology meaningful use attestation
- Aligns with The Joint Commission recommendations
- Eliminates the need for additional classroom training
3. New York City-based Montefiore Medical Center redesigned its patient registration to collect REAL data and saw its patient’s preferred language drop from 97 percent unknown to 3 percent unknown.
4. The Joint Commission and America’s Essential Hospitals are offering a joint session on May 23 at the Cleveland Clinic’s 8th annual Patient Experience Empathy + Innovation Summit in Cleveland where they will further discuss the module.
