The Joint Commission released a new advisory on de-escalating aggression in healthcare settings.

The advisory includes guidance on the following:

1. Committing resources to educate staff on de-escalation

2. Performing audits to inform operations

3. Involving patients in de-escalation efforts

4. Using assessment tools

5. Incorporating debriefing techniques.
