ASCs are required to enroll in the National Healthcare Safety Network and report information to Texas Department of State Health Services if they perform procedures identified in this flowchart (pdf).
“However, if the Commissioner adds another procedure listed in NHSN, then the ASC will be required to report through NHSN if they perform that procedure,” according to the TASCS report. “And the (ASC) facility may wish to use NHSN for their own purposes (data storage, analysis etc) when they are not required to join NHSN. The Department of State Health Services will be providing additional guidance in the near future.”
