Researchers conducted a study of all hospitalized patients with a positive fecal CDI toxin assay result in three university-affiliated hospitals from July 2006-Oct. 2006. Eight CDI severity scores were compared: Beth Israel, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center version 1, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center version 2, Hines VA, modified University of Illinois, University of Calgary version 1, University of Calgary version 2 and University of Temple.
Of 184 patients with CDI, 19 patients had severe cases and 165 patients had non-severe cases, with the Hines VA index showing the highest kappa score.
