Patient Education Tool: 'Speak Up: What You Should Know About Stroke' Brochure

The Joint Commission has released a free, downloadable brochure on the topic of stroke prevention and treatment.

The brochure, titled "Speak Up:  'What You Should Know About Stroke,'" was developed by The Joint Commission in collaboration with the American Academy of Neurology, American Association of Neuroscience Nurses, American Heart Association/American Stroke Association, National Stroke Association and NIH/National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke.

The brochure provides information on the early signs of stroke, what patients should know about stroke, what increases the risk for stroke, what happens after a stroke and more.

This is the latest "Speak Up" brochure. Other Speak Up brochures address topics that include understanding medical tests, recovering after leaving the hospital, preventing medication mistakes, preventing infections, health literacy, preparing to become a living organ donor, avoiding mistakes in your surgery, and preventing errors in care.
