Midland (Texas) Memorial Hospital, for instance, is sending its nurses back to receive continuing education in nursing, with the ultimate goal of having 80 percent of hospital nurses holding a bachelor’s degree within the next several years. Currently, most Midland Memorial nurses have an associate’s degree.

Midland Memorial will increase its tuition assistance from $1,500 to $3,000 to nurses interested in going back to school. Hospital officials say continuing education will help improve patient care and safety.
