Among the Las Vegas cases settled by the board, one physician — Ismat Chaudhery, MD — was fined $10,000 and ordered to take 11.25 hours of education on medical billing. This penalty follows a guilty plea by Dr. Chaudhery of submitting false Medicaid claims for medical services she never performed in 2005 and twice in 2007, according to the report.

Other cases include the following:

James Unger, MD — Dr. Unger was penalized $3,000, issued a public reprimand and ordered to take six hours of medical education on medical error prevention. He allegedly performed an unnecessary hysterectomy. Dr. Unger purportedly used another patient’s pathology slide as the deciding factor for the surgery.

Darren Soong, MD, and Daniel Link, MD — Drs. Soong and Link were both fined $1,000 and received public reprimands for not informing a patient that she was pregnant before performing weight loss surgery and administering anesthesia to her. The board said the surgery should have been canceled.

Thomas Sazani, MD — Dr. Sazani was fine $1,500 following disciplinary action by the California Medical Board for prescribing medication over the Internet without proper patient examination. He also received a public reprimand.
