The bureau investigated the clinic after receiving a complaint that the clinic was performing abortions in an unsafe environment. Investigators found medical equipment, medications and hand-out literature consistent with the complaint in the clinic, according to the release. Deficiencies in infection control, including improper sterilization, were also found.
Although Clinica de Mujeres was licensed as a clinic by the City of Las Vegas, Nevada state law requires any clinic performing surgery to be licensed as an ASC, which the clinic was not, according to the release. Inspectors also believe the clinic was dispensing prescriptions without a license.
The bureau has issued similar letters to three other facilities, including another in Las Vegas, that allegedly are performing unlicensed surgery, according to the release.
