Here’s what you should know:

1. MAHEC was established in 1974. It serves a 16-county region in Western North Carolina.

2. The group provides family medicine, OB-GYN, surgery, psychiatry and dental services to the area. The organization also specializes in sports medicine.

3. MAHEC also provides medical training, and as of June 2016, 493 physicians and dentists graduated from MAHEC.
