The video is titled “Speak Up: When You’re Having Surgery” to educate patients on how to prepare for their procedures. In the video, a son plays the advocate for his father’s knee surgery. The video gives advice such as:

1. Ask about the surgeon’s experience with a procedure and whether there are alternative treatments.

2. Make sure there is someone with you who can help you feel comfortable.

3. Be prepared for many staff questions.

4. Ask for clarifications on postoperative and follow-up care.

The Joint Commission also has the Speak Up program to educate patients.
