Joint Commission Releases Fourth Animated Patient Safety Video, Focuses on Doctor's Office Appointments

The Joint Commission has announced it has released the fourth in a series of animated videos to encourage patients to become active participants in their healthcare, with the latest 60-second video focusing on how patients can best prepare for and know what to ask during doctor's office appointments.

The "Speak Up" videos are intended as public service announcements and are available for viewing at The Joint Commission's YouTube channel at www.youtube.com/user/TheJointCommission. The messages of the latest video include encouraging patients to write down questions about their health, sharing a list of their medications with their doctor and making sure they understand everything that is explained during medical checkups.

The first video focused on encouraging patients to feel comfortable speaking up about their healthcare whether in a doctor's office or at the hospital. The second video focused on speaking up about infection control. The third video focused on medication management.

In addition to the videos, the Speak Up program, which launched in 2002, offers brochures, posters and buttons on a variety of patient safety topics.
