Joint Commission Receives Six-Year CMS Deeming Authority for Surgery Centers

The Joint Commission has announced that CMS has granted deeming authority to the accreditor for its ASC program for a six-year a period.

The CMS designation means that ASC which receive accreditation from The Joint Commission will be "deemed" as meeting Medicare certification requirements, and that The Joint Commission’s standards for ASCs meet or exceed those established for the Medicare and Medicaid programs.

The Joint Commission has been granted deeming authority for ASCs since 1996.
