Joint Commission Publishes 'Do Not Use' List Fact Sheet

The Joint Commission has published a fact sheet about its official "do not use" list of medical abbreviations.

 

There is a National Patient Safety Goal requiring accredited organizations to develop and implement a list of abbreviations not to use, which was created in 2002.

Two years later, The Joint Commission created its do not use list of abbreviations to help meet that goal.

 

Last year, the NPSG was integrated into The Joint Commission's Information Management standards.
