The Joint Commission developed the Blood Management Performance Measures from 2007 to 2010, and then began work on the Patient Blood Management performance measures last year after a grant from Masimo to build upon the previous measures.
The Technical Advisory Panel is guiding the work and there are six draft candidate performance measures:
• Pre-op anemia screening
• Pre-op hemoglobin level
• Pre-op type and crossmatch, type and screen
• Initial transfusion threshold
• Blood conservation
• Outcome of patient blood management
The measures will be evaluated and tested through the third quarter of this year.
