How ASCs can improve quality through education: 3 insights from Hallie Brewer

Earlier this month, the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care launched its 1095 Learn resource for ASCs, which gives them access to learning resources to improve quality during the 1,095 days that pass between accreditation surveys. Hallie Brewer, senior vice president of learning and development for association, told Becker's ASC Review how ASCs can best utilize 1095 Learn.

Question: What do you hope ASCs will get out of the 1095 Learn program? How is the AAAHC planning to engage ASCs with this program?

Hallie Brewer: Our hope is that organizations engaging with 1095 Learn can take advantage of a robust range of education and resources to support them in advancing high quality patient care. The providers we work with are incredibly busy, and we know how important continued improvement is to individuals and to organizations. The 1095 Learn program allows us to bring more education to ASCs right inside their facilities.

Q: How can ASCs use these resources to improve quality?

HB: We designed 1095 Learn to be a powerful platform that supports the educational needs of organizations at all levels — not only toward accreditation or certification, but on a continuous and comprehensive basis that focuses on enhancing quality. From working with organizations on a daily basis, we know how challenging quality improvement can be, and we are targeting this topic as a priority in future education development.

Q; Is the AAAHC planning on expanding or adding to these resources?

HB: Absolutely. We are in the early stages of creating a robust curriculum of learning offerings across a variety of modalities: eLearning, webinars, blended learning opportunities, instructor-led workshops and conferences, to name a few. These offerings are designed to suit a variety of learners, right where they are. We are excited that our new platform includes an ever-growing body of knowledge and resources that we can share with our organizations. We welcome ideas and feedback we receive from providers, and we are ready to develop new educational offerings that help them continue driving forward.
