Georgia Surgery Center Warns Patients of Possible Infection

The Evans (Ga.) Surgery Center alerted 1,300 patients that they were at risk of a possible infection from improperly sanitized endoscopes used in GI procedures, according to a report in the Augusta Chronicle.

A quality review found that staff at the ASC had failed to follow the manufacturer’s suggestion to sanitize the scope for at least five minutes. Officials at the organization note that the patients’ risk of infection was near zero.
