In 2006, a supervisor reportedly instructed Dr. Irvine to discontinue his relationship with and treatment of the patient. Despite this, Dr. Irvine continued to provide the patient prescriptions through Sept. 2010 for drugs, including diazepam and Vicodin. The California Medical Board has charged Dr. Irvine with gross negligence, improper medication administration and failing to document his continued prescribing after she was no longer his patient, according to the report.

A Sutter North spokeswoman stated the Sutter North Medical Foundation and the Sutter North Medical Group have agreed to cooperate during the medical board's investigation.
