CMS wants accrediting organizations to post surveys online to promote transparency: 3 key notes

CMS wants national accrediting organizations to post provider/supplier survey reports and plans of corrections for CMS-approved accreditation programs online.

Here's what you should know:

1. The organizations currently do not make their survey reports and related plans of correction publicly available.

2. CMS makes regional office and state agency reports available online as well as accepted plans of correction.

3. CMS wants to make this change, "in order to advance the Department's and Agency's commitment to transparency in terms of patient access to quality and safety information."

CMS said enabling access to surveys and correction plans will allow consumers to make more informed decisions on where they go to receive healthcare.
