CMS renewed HFAP's deeming authority for ASCs allowing it to conduct accreditation surveys that assess compliance with the Medicare Conditions for Coverage.

Here's what you should know:

1. HFAP holds deeming authority for clinical laboratories as well as for acute care and critical access hospitals. The organization can also accredit programs without deemed status for other ambulatory facilities.

2. Additionally, HFAP offers specialty certifications for three levels of stroke care, laser and lithotripsy services and wound care.

3. The renewal is valid through September 2023.

4. HFAP Executive Director of Strategic Development Gary Ley said in a release, "HFAP has developed a user-friendly, education-focused and cost-effective approach to accreditation that aims to provide healthcare organizations with a thorough survey and informative results to drive quality improvement. Our highly trained clinical staff are charged with providing standards interpretation as well as reviewing survey report and plans of correction – ensuring all participating organizations gain expert insight from our accreditation services."
