AOHP released its position statement after it conducted a survey about healthcare professionals’ top safety concerns. In regards to bloodborne pathogens, AOHP is calling for broader use of technology, education, training and prevention to reduce the incidence of sharps injuries. The association also expressed concern about the underreporting of sharps injuries.
In the position statement, AOHP also advocated for increased measures, research, education and legislation for safer patient handling, protection against respiratory transmissible diseases and violence prevention programs in healthcare organizations, according to the report.
