Baltimore Washington Medical Center Fined $14K for Radiation Error

Baltimore Washington Medical Center has agreed to pay the Maryland Department of Environment a penalty of $14,000 for misadministration of radiation during therapeutic treatment of a patient, according to an MDE news release.

BWMC reportedly exposed a patient to radiation doses that were “not consistent” with treatment protocols for a patient’s lung and abdomen, according to a news report by The Capital. report. Under the Maryland Radiation Act, licensees of radiation machines must use radiation levels “as low as reasonably achievable,” according to the report.

Hospital officials said there has been no negative effect on the unnamed patient’s well-being.
