Accreditation tip: when does reaccreditation apply?

Accreditation is not a simple proposition, but with the right tools and planning, it can be successfully completed. Less obvious, perhaps, is when reaccreditation is necessary.

Apart from the scheduled end to a current accreditation, reaccreditation may be necessary when a freestanding ASC changes ownership, including when it joints a joint venture with another organization, such as a hospital.

“When a change of ownership occurs, the current accreditation becomes null and void,” said Marcy Sasso, director of compliance and operations at Sasso Consulting, of accreditation status post-ownership change, in a Becker’s ASC Review article.
