Accreditation Tip: Check Credentialing Processes

According to Michael Kulczycki, MBA, executive director of The Joint Commission’s Ambulatory Care Accreditation Program, lax credentialing is the number one gaffe the organization sees during the ambulatory accreditation process, coming in either first or second on the list for the third year running.

“In an ASC it’s typically handled by someone already doing several jobs, but it’s detailed process, requiring precision tracking of dates, timelines and deadlines,” he says.

While the standard is relatively straightforward, Mr. Kulczycki recommends ASCs double-check their credentialing process to avoid this common mistake.
