The Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care was selected to accredit more than 70 Federal Bureau of Prisons' ambulatory healthcare facilities.

1. The bureau has 122 institutions providing mental, dental and medical health services to inmates across the United States.
2. AAAHC Board Chair Meena Desai, MD, said the AAAHC would develop an accreditation plan to help improve the bureau's facilities.
3. The bureau's institutions serve as outpatient facilities mirroring community care clinics.
4. AAAHC serves several branches of the federal government including the U.S. Air Force and federally qualified health centers.
