The award recipients are the Teaching Urban Roads to Lifestyle and Exercise (TURTLE) Camp, a program established by the Central Oklahoma American Indian Health Council to prevent diabetes and encourage lifestyle changes to reduce obesity in American Indian children, and the Endoscopy Center of Colorado Springs, which developed a program aimed at improving the system for reporting pathology results to patients.

Following participation in TURTLE Camp, which offers camps for children from ages 7 to 12, children were able to demonstrate a better understanding of how to prevent diabetes and show improvement in healthy behavior and eating habits.

The Endoscopy Center of Colorado Springs’s program lead to a significant increase in the number of patients who received their pathology reports, understood the results and their recommended follow-up dates.
