The organization has created a reliable, peer-based system of evaluation, consulting and education in its three-and-a-half decades of existence. Since 1979, the organization has accomplished many things, including:
    •    Launching an accreditation program for healthcare plans and managed care in 1983

    •    Founding the AAAHC Institute for Quality Improvement in 1999, to assist ambulatory organizations in benchmarking clinical and quality measures on a national level.

    •    Obtaining CMS approval for Medicare Advantage plans in 2007

    •    Becoming the official accrediting organization of the U.S. Air Force Coast Guard

    •    Establishing Acreditas Global, the international arm of AAAHC, in 2010 to help providers in other countries that seek accreditation for their ambulatory healthcare services
