Here are five things to know.
1. The first CAIP exam period is set for Oct. 1 to 31, 2018. Electronic exam applications must be submitted August 1 to 31, 2018.
2. The CAIP exam tests knowledge in five areas:
- Infection prevention program development, implementation and maintenance
- Infection prevention and control education and training
- Surveillance, data collection and analysis
- Infection prevention strategies
- Instrument/equipment cleaning, disinfection and sterilization
3. Applicants must submit a copy of state license verification; an infection preventionist job description or proof of holding the Certified Infection Control credential; documentation of 10 contact hours in infection prevention education over the last two years; one letter of reference from a direct supervisor; and government-issued photo identification.
4. The examination fee is $345.
5. The certification is valid for three years. To maintain certification, professionals must submit validation of continuing education and/or an annual fee.
