The patient safety goals for 2014 include:
1. Identify patients correctly
• NPSG.01.01.01: Use at least two ways to indentify a patient.
• NPSG.01.03.01: Ensure that patients receiving blood transfusion receive the correct blood.
2. Use medicines safely
• NPSG.03.04.01: Label all medicines that are unlabeled before a procedure.
• NPSG.03.05.01: Be careful with patients that take blood thinners.
• NPSG.03.06.01: Correctly record and share all patient medication information.
3. Prevent infection
• NPSG.07.01.01: Follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention or World Health Organization hand hygiene protocols.
• NPSG.07.05.01: Follow proven guidelines to prevent postoperative infection.
4. Prevent mistakes in surgery
• UP.01.01.01: Ensure that the correct procedure is done on the correct patient in the correct place on the body.
• UP.01.02.01: Mark the correct place for the procedure on the patient’s body.
• UP.01.03.01: Pause before the surgery to double check that there is no mistake being made.
