Here are four things to know for ASC deemed status surveys:
1. Two active patients must be present during the survey, preferably on the first day.
2. Surveyors will observe at least one surgical procedure from the preoperative phase through the
discharge phase. To plan the observation, organizations must have a schedule of surgical procedures.
3. Surveyors will review a sample of closed medical records. The sample will be selected from a list of surgeries from the past six months.
4. Surveyors will choose at least 20 records for a facility with a monthly case volume of more than 50 and a minimum of 10 records for ASCs with lower volume. The sample size might be expanded on a case-by-case basis.
