UCSF names Dr. Michael Gropper anesthesia department chair: 5 key notes

University of California San Francisco named Michael Gropper, MD, PhD, chair of the department of anesthesia and perioperative care, effective Sept. 1.

Here are five key notes:

1. Dr. Gropper has served as interim chair of the department since April 1, 2014.

2. He is a professor of anesthesia and perioperative care, as well as a professor of physiology and an investigator in the Cardiovascular Research Institute.

3. His research interests include acute respiratory failure, severe sepsis, transfusion lung injury and teamwork and communication in the ICU.

4. He has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed articles.

5. Dr. Gropper completed his residency at University of California San Francisco.
